In shadows cast by memories so dear,
I pen these words with a heart sincere.
Today’s your birthday, grandfather mine,
But you’ve departed, left me to pine.

~~~~~~
You were my beacon, my guiding light,
In your warmth, the world felt so right.
A chef renowned, in a French cuisine,
You taught me life’s flavours, how they glean.
~~~~~~

Croissants and baguettes, with love you’d bake,
Each bite a memory, each slice a stake.
In your kitchen, secrets you’d unveil,
The art of soufflé, a savory tale.

~~~~~~
From distant lands, you’d bring me treats,
A bounty of sweets, a taste that greets.
Though your knees ached, and age did bind,
You’d pick me up, so loving and kind.
~~~~~~

Seventy-two, with every step you’d take,
In your love’s embrace, I’d never forsake.
You cared, you guided, you made me whole,
Taught me the essence of heart and soul.
