Dear Medium: We Hide Behind Masks
Using the facades we create…
We wear our disguises,
Crafted with care,
Revealing just a glimpse,
To appear bold, to appear unafraid.
But deep down,
The truth remains buried,
Tucked away in corners
We don’t dare reveal.
We choose the safe stories,
The ones that paint us in light,
We share our weaknesses,
Once they’ve already healed.
It’s a clever dance,
This performance of vulnerability,
We get the applause,
Without the risk.
Yet with this safety,
Comes a cost —
The price is our own progress,
Our own growth, stunted.
We refuse to face the mess,
Those cans of worms left unopened,
Locked tight in our minds,
Where they keep us trapped.
In these hidden spaces,
Lies the truth we avoid,
Fears and doubts that fester,
Stopping us from moving forward.
