Dear Depression: This Medium Poem is For You
The poem below explores depression as a heavy burden that follows the speaker everywhere, but despite its darkness, they find hope to keep fighting.
In the sanctum of my soul, where silence reigns supreme,
Once echoed the laughter of a thousand suns,
Now lies a void, vast and desolate,
A wasteland of despair, where hope dares not tread.
Depression, a word that falls short of the chasm it spans,
A specter that haunts the corridors of my mind,
Its tendrils reaching, twisting, coiling,
Enshrouding my essence in a cloak of darkness.
It began as a whisper, a faint echo in the stillness,
A subtle shift in the fabric of my reality,
But with each passing moment, it grew,
A swelling storm on the horizon, inevitable and relentless.
I sought refuge in distraction, in the fleeting pleasures of the world,
But the darkness followed, a shadow that clung to my heels,
Suffusing every joy with its taint,
Leaving behind only a bitter aftertaste of emptiness.
