Betrayer of Hearts: A Birthday Tale of Love and Sorrow
In shadows cast by candlelight’s soft gleam,
Two years ago, a tale began to stream,
Upon my birthday, joy should have been king,
Yet within that memory, sorrow took its wing.

A day to celebrate, love’s sweet embrace,
But clouds of doubt, his mother’s disapproval,
A whispered storm, an unforeseen removal.

Picking at my faults, my flaws she’d never hide,
Accused of lacking respect, my heart ached sore,
But what cut deeper still, were the words he bore.

In that moment, his allegiance he withdrew,
“Mother’s words hold truth,” he firmly decreed,
And in those syllables, my heart began to bleed.
